Artist’s Biography

Suzan is an American Artist raised in the Aspen Valley and in San Diego, California. Her mobile foundation helped her to develop adaptability and an appreciation for the cultural components now inherent structures within her work.


Suzan studied Fine Art at the San Francisco Art Institute where she focused on painting, film and Art History. She completed her undergraduate studies earning her Liberal Arts degree from The Evergreen State College. Her focus at Evergreen was Art History, Fine Art (clay, photography and painting) and Cultural Anthropology; all of which stretched her worldview and supported a budding philosophical approach to her conceptual work. Suzan received her MFA from Plymouth University, UK, through the Transart Institute in 2015.


She moved to Santé Fe, NM in the late 1980’s where she painted for 5 years appreciating the qualities of light; cultural humor and green chili along with Canyon Road Galleries. In the early 1990’s Suzan moved back to Aspen where she lived for 15 years in an old mining cabin. Later when the cabin was demolished, she harvested the wallpaper which she occasionally shin colle’s into her works. It was in Aspen that Suzan met and began printmaking with Craig O’Brien. Craig printed with Robert Rauschenberg and a slew of great artists in the NYC; Jasper John, Andy Warhol among them. For Suzan, working with Craig was the catalyst for her deep appreciate and skill as an experimental print maker. Suzan is a lifelong learner whose continued education also includes printmaking studies at Anderson Ranch and Colorado Mountain College. In 2007 Suzan moved down valley to live on acreage along Cattle Creek; consolidating her passions; horses and nature surrounding her home and art studio. Seeking creative and intellectual stimulation Suzan attended artist residencies in Berlin Germany, Brooklyn and Manhattan New York, Venice Italy, and Marfa Texas.


Suzan’s work has been exhibited internationally in Sweden; Germany, Italy and Ireland. Notable exhibitions include: 2015 and 2014 Somo’s Gallery in Berlin Germany, 2014 and 2012 Dublin Biennials in Ireland, Raw Art Space in Harlem NYC, and ARTOUR-O Firenze, Italy where she was awarded Best of Show in 2012. Notable solo exhibitions include: Wyly Art Center, Lee Ann Lucas Fine Art in California, Marunouchi Gallery, New York. Suzan’s works are held in private and public collection in Australia, Bahamas, Canada, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Ireland, USA.
